Quick reality check: slower inflation doesn't mean things got cheaper.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Wednesday, August 5, that inflation eased to 6.2% in July from 6.4% in June. That's the lowest since March. It means prices are still going up, just a bit slower than before.
What changed
Transport: 11.9%, down from 12.8%
Food: steady at 5.3%
Core inflation (minus some food and energy items): 4.2%
The PSA said the slowdown came mostly from transport, education services, and restaurants and hotels.
Where you live matters
Metro Manila: 4.4%, down from 4.9%
Outside Metro Manila: 6.7%
Highest: Central Visayas at 8.7%
Lowest: Ilocos Region at 5.1%
So what now?
Inflation is still way above the government's 2% to 4% target. Translation: keep tracking your gastos, compare prices and keep that emergency fund going.
