Movie date idea for this week, sorted.

DreamWorks Animation's "Forgotten Island" opens in Philippine cinemas on Wednesday, September 23. We even get it two days before the US, where it opens September 25.

What's it about?

Best friends Jo and Raissa get pulled through a portal to Nakali, an island inspired by Filipino mythology. There they meet Raww, a lovable weredog, and run into the Manananggal. The twist: going home might make them forget their friendship. Ouch.

Spot the Pinoy details

  • The name Nakali may come from "nakalimutan," Tagalog for "forgotten"

  • The Ibong Adarna appears in the trailer

  • There's a jeepney, public school-style uniforms and friendship bracelets with anik-anik charms

The voice cast

  • Liza Soberano as Raissa

  • H.E.R. as Jo

  • Dave Franco as Raww

  • Lea Salonga as the Manananggal

Also in the cast: Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Jenny Slate, Ronny Chieng and Amielynn Abellera.

It's directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the duo behind "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," so expectations are high.

Bring your bestie. Maybe some tissues too.
